New scoring system benchmarks more than 3 million U.S. healthcare providers using over 150 billion published negotiated rates

WASHINGTON, D.C. / ACCESS Newswire / August 19, 2026 / Gigasheet, the healthcare price intelligence company, today launched Provider Rate Scores, a new way for care navigation platforms, benefits organizations, healthcare marketplaces, and provider directories to quickly understand whether a provider’s negotiated rates are high or low relative to comparable providers in the same local market.

Gigasheet analyzes more than 150 billion negotiated rates across thousands of healthcare price transparency files to generate Provider Rate Scores for more than 3 million providers nationwide. Scores are available at the provider, procedure, health plan, specialty, and local-market levels.

The score is similar to the dollar signs shown on a restaurant listing. The Gigasheet Provider Rate Score does not predict exactly what a patient will owe, but it provides an immediate, comparable signal of where a provider sits within the relevant market.

“Publishing price transparency data does not make healthcare prices understandable,” said Jason Hines, CEO and co-founder of Gigasheet. “A care navigator or a plan administrator does not need terabytes of raw machine readable data. They need to know whether a provider is priced high or low for a particular service, health plan, and market. Gigasheet Provider Rate Scores make that information immediately accessible.”

Federal price transparency rules have made vast amounts of negotiated-rate data publicly available, but the underlying files remain difficult to use. A single insurer’s machine-readable file can contain billions of records and require substantial infrastructure, normalization, and analysis before meaningful comparisons can be made.

Gigasheet ingests, cleans, normalizes, and benchmarks this data on a continuous basis. Its Smart Rate methodology identifies anomalous and non-comparable rates, aligns providers and procedures across inconsistent source files, and produces market benchmarks designed to support more accurate provider-to-provider and payer-to-payer comparisons.

“Ask any data scientist and they’ll tell you that the majority of time is spent wrangling the data, and only after that comes the actual analysis,” said Garth Griffin, CTO and co-founder of Gigasheet. “Payer files are inconsistent, incomplete, and change constantly. Our technology normalizes that mess into a form that supports comparing provider to provider or payer to payer. Then, the power of the Gigasheet Rate Score is in distilling all of that information into one number that makes sense.”

Provider Rate Scores are designed for organizations that help people make healthcare decisions, including care navigation platforms, member benefits partners, provider directories, healthcare marketplaces, review sites, self-funded employers, and benefits consultants.

A freely available Provider Rate Scores preview provides a high-level view of negotiated-rate positioning across select payers and procedures by specialty and geographic market.

Gigasheet customers can access scores at a much finer level, including specific providers, procedures, payers, specialties, and markets. This allows a care navigation team, for example, to compare surgeons for a particular procedure under a member’s health plan rather than relying on a broad specialty average.

Customers can select the level of detail that fits their use case, from market-and-specialty scores powering a provider directory to procedure-and-payer scores supporting individual care recommendations. Scores are available through the Gigasheet user-facing app, API, or bulk data delivery, allowing organizations to incorporate current benchmarks into their own products and workflows without managing the underlying transparency files or a data warehouse.

Gigasheet Provider Rate Scores are directional measures of negotiated-rate position. They are not estimates of a patient’s final bill, measures of clinical quality, or recommendations of a particular provider. Actual patient costs may vary based on plan design, benefits, site of service, additional services, and other factors.
